Of all the books of Red Pines poetry translations, Stonehousepoems moved me the most. Far superior than the Cold Mountain poems touching on Ch’an. I found myself sitting at the Stonehouses kitchen table touching on the generative existence of this life as the cosmos swirls around us.
Bob, yes, I agree. Stonehouse’s poems are like an intimate journal, tracing his practice and state of mind. Cold Mountain feels, in places, too repetitive, too much like “poetry.” Stonehouse is right beside you, Cold Mountain is slightly removed & distant from you.
